Stewart Hicks, the Road Wing’s Creator, started working on the project back in 2008 when he was struck by the idea of adding stability and lift to his vehicle by attaching a wing to the bed of his truck. What he got were a smoother ride and better gas mileage.
To ensure that the results he received were universal, Stewart spent the next few years testing his wing invention on the back of a large variety of cars and trucks. Time and time again, the wing proved it’s worth in results!
The Results
A 1999 Grand Marquis normally gets 18 – 20 miles to the gallon on the highway, but with the addition of the Road Wing, the Gran Marquis received 26 – 28 miles to the gallon.
The Camry which averages 26 to 28 miles to the gallon on the highway, jumped up to 33 – 35 miles to the gallon with the help of the Road Wing.
A 2001 F-150 Super Crew which gets 16 to 17 miles to the gallon on the highway, had its mileage climb up to 19- 20 miles to the gallon, thanks to the Road Wing.
***All the tests were run at 65 miles an hour.
For extra reassurance, Stewart enlisted the help of Texas Tech’s graduate engineering department to run computer simulations on the Road Wing. Their conclusion… through lab tests, the Road Wing proved its effect on vehicles of creating a significate increase in fuel efficiency.
On average, the Road Wing created a fuel savings of anywhere between 10-20%.
It’s like paying only $1.65 for a gallon of gas when everyone else is paying $2.00 per the gallon.
The Road Wing works on the vehicle no matter what speed you’re traveling and the results are the same in town or on the highway. Another benefit that is not so obvious is the decreased wear and tear on the vehicle engine and tires.
Production
In 2016, Stewart received a patent for the vehicle wing and with the help of Clark Douglass, his lifelong friend and industrial designer, they finalized the design and set up manufacturing in the USA! By 2020, Stewart and Clark plan to start production of the Road Wing to fit other vehicle make and models.
Now you know some of the eleven-year history of the development of the Road Wing, you can enjoy the benefits of its beauty, stability, and savings it’ll provide you for the years to come.
